What is APY and how is it used?

"APY" stands for "annual percentage yield." The annual percentage yield represents the amount of interest earned in one year expressed as a percentage rate on an account based on the interest rate and the frequency of the compounding. Interest on Discover Money Market Accounts are compounded daily and credited monthly. The more often compounding takes place, the more interest is earned on the account.

Can I withdraw interest from my Discover Bank Money Market Account every month and still receive the quoted APY?

No. APY takes into account the effect of compounding; therefore, in order to receive the quoted APY, funds must remain on deposit for a full 365-day year.

When can I access my initial deposit funds?

Initial deposit funds will be available within ten business days after the funds are received. In order to manage, view, or transfer your funds online, you must first register at DiscoverBank.com.

What are the transaction limitations for a Discover Bank Money Market Account?

You may make up to six preauthorized withdrawals from your Money Market Account per statement cycle, including automatic or telephone transfers.

How is interest on my Discover Bank Money Market Account calculated?

We use the daily balance method to calculate interest. This method applies a daily periodic rate to the principal in the account each day.

Interest begins to accrue on the business day of your deposit, if the deposit occurred at or before 2PM ET. After 2PM ET, you will start to earn interest on the next business day.

Interest is compounded on a daily basis and credited to your account on a monthly basis.
